Through academic training, practice, and global networking opportunities, the Rotary Peace Centers program develops the capacity of peace and development professionals or practitioners to become experienced and effective catalysts for peace. Rotary Fellowships
The Rotary Peace Fellowships is designed for leaders with work experience in peace and development. Our fellows are committed to community and international service and the pursuit of peace. Each year, The Rotary Foundation awards up to 50 fellowships for master’s degrees and 80 for certificate studies at premier universities.
Choose the program that’s right for you
Master’s degree programs
Accepted candidates study peace and development issues with research-informed teaching and a diverse student body. The programs last 15 to 24 months and include a two- to three-month field study, which participants design themselves.
Professional development certificate program
During the one-year blended learning program, experienced peace and development professionals with diverse backgrounds gain practical skills to promote peace within their communities and across the globe. Fellows complete field studies, and they also design and carry out a social change initiative. This program is intended for working professionals.

Brief description:
Each year, Rotary selects up to 130 peace and development leaders from around the world to receive fully funded academic fellowships to pursue a Professional Development Certificate Program or Masters Degree Program related to peace and conflict resolution and prevention at one of the participating peace centers around the world (USA, Japan, UK, Australia, Sweden, Thailand, Uganda)

- Duke University and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA: Master of International Development Policy Program (MIDP) or various degrees offered by the University of North Carolina
- International Christian University, Japan: Master’s Degree in Peace Studies
- University of Bradford, England: Advanced Practice in Peacebuilding and Conflict Resolution MA
- University of Queensland, Australia: Master of Peace and Conflict Studies (MPACS)
- Uppsala University, Sweden: Peace and Conflict Studies (MS.Sc.)
- Chulalongkorn University, Thailand (certificate program): Professional Development Certificate in Peace and Development Studies (PgCert)
- Makerere University, Uganda (certificate program)
Important Note: Fellowship recipients may not study at a Rotary Peace Center in their home country, with the exception of candidates from Thailand, who may attend the center at Chulalongkorn University and candidates from Uganda, who may attend the center at Makerere University.

Eligibility:
The Rotary Peace Fellowships 2024 is designed for professionals with work experience in international relations or peace and conflict prevention and resolution. Applicants must also meet the following requirements:
- Have three years of related work experience for the master’s program (five years for the Duke
program) - Have five years of related work experience for the certificate program and be able to explain how their plan to promote peace aligns with Rotary’s mission (Candidates for Makerere University must either be from Africa, have worked in Africa, or work with African communities or initiatives outside the continent.)
- Be proficient in English
- Have a bachelor’s degree
- Demonstrate leadership skills
- Have a strong commitment to cross-cultural understanding and peace

Application instructions:
The deadline for candidates to submit applications to their respective Rotary district is 15 May 2024. Districts must submit endorsed applications to The Rotary Foundation by 1 July 2024.

Eligibility Restrictions
Rotary Peace Fellowships may not be used for doctoral study. The following people are not eligible for the fellowship:
- Active Rotary members
- Employees of a Rotary club or district, Rotary International, or other Rotary entity
- Spouses, lineal descendants (children or grandchildren by blood or legal adoption), spouses of lineal descendants, or ancestors (parents or grandparents by blood) of any living person in these categories
- Former Rotary members and their relatives as described above (within 36 months of their resignation)
Rotary Peace Fellows who have completed the certificate program, Master’s program, or a Global Grant Scholarship, must wait three years between the end date of that program and their intended start date for the fellowship. Additionally, candidates must have a minimum of three years of relevant work experience between the completion of a previous academic degree program (undergraduate or graduate degree) and their intended start date for the fellowship.
